Red face Calling all predator callers, HELP???

I told the wolf story about the 6 wolves we watched across from us as we waited for the elk to come up the hill when I showed the dead elk pictures. Also my tale of woe about not having a wolf tag . Well I do now .
The rest of the story is my elk hunting buddy went up to that exact spot the next day with an old "Johnny Stewart 45 RPM record caller" that musta come across with Columbus on the Nina the Pinta or the Santa Maria, pathetic!!
In spite a that, as he was sitting there using that old caller and the magpies and camp robbers were landing in the trees all around him he suddenly looks down the trail about 20 yards and a youngish Mountain Lion had just magically appeared . He didn't have a cat tag and it wasn't one he'd a taken anyway but he had to not only yell at it to get it to leave but lift his hands up and wave before it took off. Guess it figured that dying rabbit was worth scrapping over. He's got a cat tag now!

The purpose of all the above is to ask you current callers what the best "Fox-Pro" is out there for the money and is Fox-Pro still considered the best caller??
$39.00 later and I'm packing a wolf and also mountain lion tag in my wallet as well which means my chances of ever being in a shooting situation on one again is now probably none . Be that as it may, back in the 70's when I hunted fur a lot I used mouth calls. I know nothing whatsoever about the new technology and would sure appreciate some purchase mentoring from those that actually do. Cost effective purchase mentoring preferably for a couple old gaffers who quit calling fur when a prime dog coyote wouldn't sell for enough to buy ya the tank of gas it took to go out and pop him.
Thanks in advance.

Doug, I'm mostly familiar with the higher end, most expensive units. But my personal choice for a cost effective unit, would probably be the Hellfire. It's the younger brother of the one I do use, which is the CS24-C.

I have some of those JS 45's (and Herter's predator calling 45's too), but not the player.

Go back out to the same place, cats have short memories, if one came in to a call then he will do it again in two days. Larry

Well if you have a bunch a 45's but no player I'd bet my partner would swap his ever so rare Johnny Stewart player straight across for your CS24-C .
Thanks DA I was hoping you'd see this thread and respond, appreciate it .

From a cost effective point of view, both the Hellfire that Dave mentioned as well as the Wildfire 2 offer a lot for the money in electronic callers.

I saw both of them in action a few weeks ago up in the cold country and they both called coyotes...but so did my ~40 year old Weems Dual Tone hand call....

Wildlife Technologies. Best sound quality and volume around IMHO. Some serious dollars but I confess, I own one.

I would return a few times off and on for at least one week. Cats make a tour of their territory and that cat should show back around and come to the call again. Bingo. And maybe the wolves. Bill K

Fox pro and Wildlife Technologies both make excellent electronic calls. Spend the $ on either one... You won't be unhappy. Careful though, it's totally addictive!

Bought a Foxpro Spitfire few weeks ago. This is a lower end offering and haven't used it yet,
But I would be wary of spending more $$$ than you need to get the job done. Just think you can buy a lot of stuff that's no use to you.

Ps. As BCB stated " A mouth call worked"
From experience, some times, it don't matter which call you use, if the critter has other things in mind and loses interest in your noise, nothing's gonna change it's mind. Especially if the opposite sex is around at the r ight time!

I bought Wildlife Technologies about 3 years ago.
It's compact reliable and offers very clear sound and incorporates a HORN speaker that can reach longer distances.
Prior to this I owned a FoxPro which was bulky becuase I carried a horn speaker which was a seperate entity.
