For me, the OP is a bit confusing. 'Ran ten rounds through the chrony'. Yet, there are sixteen different velocities listed in the next post. 'Doing a ladder test'. The ladder includes different charges, velocity will (should) change.

Mixing brass will only accomplish one thing: It introduces a variable (or at least the distinct possibility of one) that works against the consistency you need to establish a base line to work off of.

Pretty common for velocity to drop as barrel heats up, how long to shoot the string?

What about brass prep? Was there anything to prep the brass better, even if they were "mixed brass".

Finally got around to loading some with all the same brass. It cut my velocity variance in about half and was a great suggestion, thank you. Still have to keep tinkering...

That's a start.
Find another chronograph to compare with.
Might be good to set both up at the same time.

Mixed brass will cause it too of course.
Thing about a chronograph it'll show things you've never dreamed
of before and make you a liar everytime about velocity as you always
KNEW before using one. It sure did for me.

Now I use one to check and always when developing loads.
it gets put away. Very educational toys for sure.

Now you see, no matter how long you have been reloading, that to make each round as close and good as can be, you must keep every round the same, all the way. i.e. case brand, powder, primer, bullet, seating depth and all.
If you change one step or item, you change the whole pattern. We all live and learn. Bill K

Me Too. When a person stops learning, remember most of the time it is due to his being dead. Main thing is have fun and keep plugging away at the varmints and targets. Bill K
