Default 22-6mm rem.

Has anyone got one, I am concidering getting one made up on an old rem Mt rifle, long action. looking at the 75 80gr a-max as a bullet range.
have several hundred brass, donna rifle, so just dies and a tube.
few questions,
assume long action, over short, but will the 80gr single feed into a short action.
roughly what sort of barrel life can I expect.
1-9 twist or better with a 1-8 ??
Worth improving ?
if anyone has done this, a few pointers on powder, Most likely going to have to use an adi powder, h1000, or retumbo, H4381, or 4350 all easy to get here.
Will be used as a hunting rifle mostly, for small game, goats and small fallow deer,
thanks

You could probably single feed the heavy bullets in a short action but my guess would be you'd have to remove the bolt to get a loaded round out.

I'd run an 8 twist for sure. Probably a 26" barrel if you really want to push the velocity up.

Powder election looks good, maybe throw R17 in there to try as well.

Lots of fun for sure. You should be able to push a 75 to nearly 3500fps.

Have fun

I talked to Lonny Hummel at Hornady years ago about this case. He shot it in long range competition with 75 gr and 80 gr bullets. He gave me the reamer spec's etc but unfortunately all my load data, reamers and reamer spec are still misplaced from the accident. Call Hornady to see if they can help, Lonney was a wealth of info and a good guy to talk to. They might give you his number to call.

Default big 22

I don't have a 22-6mm but I do have a 22-243 with a 28" 1-8"tw Brux. I shoot the 75gr Amax using RL22 and others I know use RL25. Mine has approx 800 rounds down it and is still going strong. I don't seat anywhere near the lands, keep my rifle cool, ie..I'm not running off long strings. I can push a 75 Amax up to 3600fps without brass issues and because it keeps the factory 243 case shape feeds well in a Rem SA. I can't count how many feral pigs I've shot with it. Dies are a 243 FL bushing die and a Hornady 22cal seater. Probably the only issue with doing something similiar with the 22-6mm is action length which if you have the LA is not a problem. Get a long barrel, I plan on lopping mine off at the first sign of accuracy deterioration and rechambering.

southernman, I talked to Lonnie at the last Tulsa show. He is retired now. He talked about shooting the 22-6MM Remington in competition. Lonnie is a really nice guy. Try contacting Ben Syring in the Custom Die department 800-338-3006 (Ext. 261). He probably knows how to get in touch with Lonnie. 410gauge

If you get one I bet you'll like it a bunch. Mine is made on a MRC short action Model 70 CRF clone which has a magazine box that measures 3.125" with a Douglas Premium 24" #2 contour Douglas barrel. Mine is a 12" twist and it shoots 60 and 63 grain Sierra bullets extremely well which are the bullet choices i wanted to use. Its a laser on coyotes.

I've got a remage barrel in 22-6mm around here somewhere ?
since building my 22-243 middlestead , Its been on the back burner.

I think I was using 50 grs of retumbo with a 75 amax and it shot really well over distance.
Lonnie had given me several sheets of load data that he'd developed. Its around here somewhere too.

I went the route of a 22 -243 no change in shoulder . Very similar to a 220 swift Ackley improved.
