AWP 101

Here is some info I found for you on the 224 Harvey Kay-Chuk,
(proper name).

See info here:
http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-han...questions.html

There were 2 different versions of the K-Chuk, made on S/W K-22 frame sizes,

The standard (1st version) was a 22 Hornet cut off to approx 1.30",
and the 2nd Version, aka the K Hornet case blown out straight with a 35* shoulder angle and also shortened to 1.30" to fit within the K-22 cylinder length etc.

Do not use the Alum framed pistols,
won't stand the flame cutting on the top strap.

Fps is better than the 22 Jet case with a standard 33-35 gr 224 bullets, 6" bbl or longer, neighbor hood of 1800+.

Cartridges of the World mag, has info on this case in the 6th & 7th editions.

I am working on a 17 cal version, only going a different route for a pistol.

Hope this helps,

Tia,
Don

Thanks everyone, lots of good info!

I mis-spoke errr, mis-typed. I meant straight wall/sharp shoulder, not straight wall bottleneck.

If I can't do it on the factory cylinder, I can't do it at all. The budget to farm it out won't handle a custom cylinder, nor does my skill set or tools at home. That also eliminates the .25s and .32s necked down to .22.

Basically it sounds like the short KH idea is a no-go and that's OK. I wasn't pinning my hopes and dreams on it but it was worth investigating.

The 5.7 is an interesting idea. I was less than impressed with it out of the PS90 but a short version in a revolver might be worth checking out. I'll have to check out the dimensions, etc.

IIRC David Clements used to rechamber Single Sixes for the Snapper but last information was he'd stopped. Might be worth asking him myself since that was second hand info of unknown vintage.

The Old Redneck, PM inbound over at the single action forum.

georgeld I understand the hope of getting parts back. I've got 2 Martini Cadet breechblocks that are MIA. Sent them out over a year ago to be bushed after being quoted a 3 week turn around. That's the last I've seen of them, the funds or the 'smith.

No, but it has to end at some point right? I may be dead and gone when it does but it'll end... BTW, glad to see someone with a similar sense of humor to mine!

I know this is not a 22 Cal, but as far a versatility in reloading in available small weight bullets and charges in a 32ACP up to the impressive 327 magnum capabilities, this is a cool little 7-shot pistol. It will shoot the 32 H&R Mag, 32 S&W and 32 Long cartridges. As a reloader, one can match small rimfire similarities and then if needed, Big Boy performance.

Just a thought....

P.S. This would make a nice little carry rifle cartridge and have a pistol/rifle combo....

Looks like a fine gun. BUT, I'd hesitate to believe all the hype solely
because of the statement: "FULL Sized grip"
I've yet to find a Ruger revolver with anything near Full Sized Grip!!
At least not for a big handed guy like me.
I've ended up putting those ugly Hogue rubber grips on all my Rugers just
so they'd fit my hand.

They work wonders for controlling recoil in the big stuff too. .45 Colt with
330gr slugs and a case full of coal is a handful. No way I could hold onto one without these bigger grips.

Just my opinion againm, yours may differ.

Better resale also.
With things the way they are why would you waste you time on rimfire? Those cases have seen the Obomba death because those are the cases we use to train kids to shoot.

I have this single seven and love it. I now wish I had went with the 7" barrel for the extra velocity. I love this cartridge though. Badger Bob on here is going to build me a rifle on a low wall action to match. I think it will be a perfect pair. I know the rifle will be a keeper and so is the pistol.
