Default new old stock

an e-bay seller has some new old stock douglas barrels that he says are quite "early" as to date of manufacture. has technology made these barrels obsolete? how do they compare with a present day douglas offering as to accuracy? he wants to compare them to douglas' present value. thanks

I would be careful of the twist rate cited. 1:12 sounds slow compared to today's useage.

yep..todays usage could change things. if these barrels are 15, 20 years old, i wonder how they compare to modern expectations. anyone know how long air gauging has been in use? does the price seem to be a deal?

Just to give you insight, they have been listed for quite sometime. There is a reason for that, I have to believe.

I ran into an "Wilson" blank a while back with what looks pretty much like the same contour.
Needed something to try out a wildcat round without spending a bunch on a barrel and ending up not liking the finished product. Only cost $125.00.
Turned out to shoot bug holes.
They had 2 listed but I was only able to snag one.
For $200.00, don't think you could go wrong and no long wait either.

or for $185 you could have a NEW X-caliber barrel delivered to your door in 2 weeks or so...and they guarantee accuracy. Just dropped mine off at DocEd's tonight. We'll see

turbocat, not sure about rifle barrels, but I used air gauging for other honed I.D.s back in the mid 60's, and it was not new technology then.

I believe Hatcher's Notebook mentions air gauging as being the 'star gauge' used on NM Springfields, so it was around before WWII.
