Default "PLASTIC" funnels = DANGER

Thought I'd share this safety tidd-bitt...
Doing some research on drop tubes I came across warnings to anyone using "plastic funnels which are prone to static electricity with potentially explosive results
I never heard of this danger and will be throwing away my plastic funnel.
I've got an aluminum funnel for small calibres but over-looked aquiring the same funnel for larger calibres.

Playing with 358 Winchester I've been making compressed loads.
Plan to use a powder drop tube for increased bullet space.
Meantime, I've been tapping the edge of the case on my table to settle things.
I'll make my own drop tube probably using copper material

Al, Easton arrow shafts make GREAT drop tubes. I use a 24" section of a 2315 for my Sharps ammo drop tube. 2512's were even better due to the diameter. I believe the measurements are in 64's of an inch. First number is the fraction and the second is the wall thickness in thousandths.

Thus 2315's are 23/64" in diameter with a 15 thou wall.

I use a standard plastic funnel at the top and an extension funnel on the bottom that centres the case.

Great idea "arrow shaft", except they're carbon fibre not metal/aluminum....hmmmm
I made a bore guide from an arrrow shaft for COOPER 17Rem. rifle
Used black electrical tape wrapped in multiple layers over the rear part of the arrow shaft to provide a tight centred fit in the rear part of the action.
I took my calipre to the archery store and did a bunch of measuring to find the right diameter

Default Plastic funnels

Easton still makes aluminum arrows also, along with carbon fiber.. Archery shops usually have old sections lying around.
Also metal shafts from old golf clubs work for drop tube and bore guides. Same thing measure and find a section the right size. Bill K

Default Danger!!!!

Your telling me for the last 40 years I've been in danger from my plastic funnels, someone should tell RCBS and the other suppliers, I bet they have sold millions of the Dangerous things. Ok I'm being a bit of a wise guy here, has there ever been a reported case of someone being blown to heck while reloading. All the IED's I dodged in Iraq, to come home and be blown up by my plastic powder funnel, damn sgtg out

I thought the real danger in regards to plastic/static was when using black powder. As far as static and smokeless powder, I have always viewed it as a nuisance. As in 'Why won't those last few kernels go down the funnel?'. That being, the Satern funnels are just way nicer to work with anyway.

So that's what happened.......

On three different occasions I blew myself up completely while reloading cartridges. I'd long believed it was the brand of cigars I was smoking at the time.
