Using the 204 case, necked up to 6.5, 10* case taper, max OEM psi= 58740
bullet seated to the bottom of the neck, (not including the bullet BT) = cartridge len of 2.560" for 95gr,
34.4grs H20 CC,
22"bbl,
with the most effeicent powders for this case/bullet/bbl etc,
gave these spec's, (approx):

Horn bullets,
95gr @ 2800+fps @50000psi
100gr @ 2700+fps @50000psi
120gr @ 2500+fps @50000psi
129gr @ 2450+fps @ 50000psi
140gr @ 2400fps @50000psi
160gr @ 2300fps @ 50000psi

Does it work for what you were thinking??

Tia,
Don

Just as a reference point, the ar15.com link below has some 6.5-223 data for 85 to 160 grain bullets out of a 24 inch barrel.

Just my opinion but I think if you do this project you would be best served to not go above 120 gr bullets. Much further below 120 gr and you might as well stick with the 6mm version. A 140 gr 6.5 mm bullet is crazy long and would eat up a large portion of your case capacity to get it to feed in a mag. My 260 is around 2800 fps with a 140 gr bullet. Kills deer dead. I think the old 6.5x54, 6.5x55, and 6.5x50 all run in the 2400-2500 fps range in their respective military rifles. If you can duplicate their ballistics with much less powder and in an auto platform with cheap brass I would be more then satisfied. Countless big game animals have fallen to these classics. They aren't barn burners on paper but the 6.5 is notorious for great penetration even at Lower velocity. (I'm in love with 6.5mm like you guys are the 20 vartarg.) If anyone completes the project I'm all ears.

Mr Majestic,

Except for the Grendel does not come in the 223 head size.

Millions of tons of brass available, just about everywhere!!!

That is the first thing I consider when looking or thinking about a case/cartridge, will there be brass available 20+ yrs from now,
and if your are OLD enough, remember the 25/30/32 Rem cases??

One of my favorite cals (25/30) when hunting the thick brush or horseback work for Deer/Wild Hogs in N. Cal.

Now, that the 6.8 cases are available,
you can now revive those Old classic shooters.

I just wish that I had NOT sold those 2 rifles..............

Tia,
Don

Exactly why I want to barrel my M7 to 6TCU. Lots of good brass and I can easily distinguish the fired brass from the .223.

Barret, exactly the reason I've been building more and more 223 case head based cartridges. 20 Prac, 6mm-223, 22-204, ect. Lots of cheap brass and high on efficiency.

I have built a .22/.204AI and it's a ripper. I used a .223AI reamer but I ran it in deeper, and headspaced it with a .204 case.

It might not sound like much of an improvement but I could only load 29 grains of Win 748 in a .204 case with a 40gn bullet, I am loading 33.5gns of Win 748 with a 40gn NBT in the .22/.204AI. Velocity has also increased from 3900fps with the .204 to 4100fps, both with 26" barrels.
