Default 17-250 or 17x47L

I've got a 17BR and want a BIG 17 that will feed from a mag. Don't need this in any way. Anyone played with either the 17-250 or 17-47L? If anyone has a reamer I'd be interested in that too.

Aaron

Aaron,
That is stupid as a chunk of cheese! Why not just go 17RUM and wear out your barrel in about 7 or 8 shots.

Never heard of anybody messing with one, there's probably a reason for that. A lot of powder for a very small hole. I think finding the right load would be a nightmare.

Go for it, I built a 20-06 and it was really fun. Larry

They won't have that much more capacity than the 17BR and so far that has been pretty darn easy to tune. I plan on doing one or the other. I have other 17's and 20's that are more efficient and that's not what I'm looking for. I know that the 17-250 has been done. Pretty sure Ackley did one.

Aaron, You won't know until you try. I'm with Larry...go for it. I'm doing one now that's crazier than what you are talking about. I'm building an extra barrel and a fire-forming barrel at the same time. Thinking outside the box occasionally produces something good. If it doesn't work out...so what! It's a barrel or two, a reamer, and some of your time. Good luck. 410gauge.

my 6BR runs about 30 gr of powder and my 6x47L runs at 40. That's 33% more capacity. Just sayin'...

GO FOR IT!! You'll never know how it'll work out till you build one, then, you can say "been there, done that".

I got the bug to build a 6.8 BR after messing with my 6.8 SPC Savage. Figured if the 30 BR was such a hot ticket, why not a 6.8 BR?
Lots of folks saying it's a waste of time and it'll never work.
Dummy round, reamer cut to those specs, barrel chambered, shoots bug holes!

Default 17/250

in one of the old gun digests or reloader digest there was such a project because the guy wanted to use a mauser action if I recall. he posted some data. I think it would be a bit better today given more powder choices and heavier than 25 grain bullets
