My .17AB made 4,500fps with those little pills, shooting under an inch, maybe 7/8". Buddy Brad's .17AH with 22" bl. Martini made 4,200fps and 3/8" with them.
Too bad Berger no longer makes them. They were great vapourizers for rats.
Daryl . I buiilt a 17 rem with a Shilen bbl 1-10 twist 26 " .I could shoot Chappie Gennets (Genco ) bullets at 5000fps .I dont remember the exact weight somewhere 15 - 18 grains ?? They would shoot a little over 1 inch at 100 yds ,but it was spectacular when one hit a gopher . His 22.5 grain hollow point would shoot in the 2s and were a fabulous bullet .

Wish I had about 10000 of those now .

Pac-Nor takes .17 caliber barrels to as fast a 6 or 7 twist. With that in mind it might be a hoot to be able to swage some 35 or 40 grain .204 cal Bergers down to .172 and set em on top of a bunch a Ramshot "Big Game" or N540 in a .17X47L case. It'd be fun while it lasted .

I'm a bit nervous to build a gun around the 37 berger. They don't have a good rep for staying together very well. I was talking to a buddy yesterday about it and he's got several fast twist 17's for the 37's. He thinks that the ideal twist should be round 7.25. I don't have any first hand experience with them.

Any chance I could buy a handful of the 37's to take a peek at?

Don't think a 1 in 7 twist .17 would stand a chance of holding together at 4,000fps, some of the 20's will blow up at top speed out of a 1 in 9. Likely a solid of about 30gr and a 1 in 8 would be the ticket for a really big .17. I would rather go 5,000fps with a 25gr in a 10 or 11 twist. Larry

The Berger 17 cal 37 gr vld start coming apart in a 1-6 twist at around 3300 fps . Got the tee-shirt .I too thought it would be the ultimate long range coyote rifle

Now you're cooking! Me too. I think the Hornady 25gr. HP would stand the gaff.

If any 17 caliber factory bullet would stand those kinds of velocities, it might be the 25 grain Hornady HP.

If speed was what I wanted, I'd probably go with a mono bullet of some kind and not expect to get good accuracy as a result.
