Tony,

I asked you over on ARFcom, but let me ask in more detail here. Are you going to make any more of the 1-12" AR15 barrels, or do you have the ability to? LMK, because if you are and are selling them, I might be interested.

Oh. I also mentioned the Sierra 40 or 50 grain Blitzkings, over the BTs or VMaxs.

Thanks!

Eric

Default 22 Nosler test coming

Just a thought and question. If a person wants 22-250 FPS, etc. in a AR, why not just chamber a barrel for the 22-250 ? Head/rim and all would be the same as a 308, so no BCG would be needed to change over, the magazine should feed the rounds just fine and brass, dies and all are just as easy, maybe more so to come by. Because 22Nosler is easier to say than 22-250Nosler

But on their "Load Data" under 55-gr Ballistic Tip (seated to OAL 2.260"), they state:

"CASE HOLDS: 34.7 Gr. WATER"

Clearly, at least one of these three figures is incorrect. Assuming the first statement is correct, then the 34.7 in the second statement is wrong, it should be 31.2 w. 55-gr BT seated.

However, the first statement cannot be correct if the empty case capacity is 31.2 as the Shooting Times article suggests. What a mess!

I would appreciate it if one of you would actually measure case capacity H20 (to level with case mouth, not with a meniscus bulge) and post it here.
Actually they are both right. They should list it as useable case capacity. If you look at all of their reloading data, every cartridges case capacity changes when a bullet is changed. Their case capacity factors in the case capacity empty minus the room the bullet occupies and ends up with useable case capacity. Not sure why they do this, other than to show load density which they already show in their load chart.

That would work if you start with the larger AR10 platform, but the 22 Nosler is designed to fit the much cheaper, smaller, universal AR15 platform. Much cheaper to do in an AR15, though I think the larger size of an AR10 would not be a hindrance in the varmint fields if shooting a 22-250.

I finally got mine put together and on paper. So far, I'm not impressed with the 55 grain factory load groups, but I'll try again with less wind.

It does kill the heck out of ground squirrels, with my longest shots being 161 and 184 yards on our "whistle pigs". Definitive "pop", with lots of air time, missing body parts (including the lower half of one) and spray reaching 10 to 15 yards behind the kill, makes for some impressive hits.
