Default 204 to 222 Mag

Have not measured the difference between the two, but the 204 came from the 222 Mag being necked down too 20 caliber.
I would think, that running the 204 brass into the fl 222 mag die would set it back enough, if it needed it, then fire form into your 222 mag chamber.

Probably a number of ways to form 222mag from 204, but I do it in two steps. (1.) Using a fl 222mag bushing die w/o any bushing or expander, I bump the 204 shoulder back in small increments until it will chamber in my 222mag chamber. (2.) I then expand from 20 caliber to 22 caliber using a K&M expander.

Don't know what dies you are using, but you may want to try removing your 222mag die internals to bump the shoulder and then use a tapered size button(if available for your die) to expand the neck. Very little lube is needed. I use Imperial Sizing Wax.

PS: A Redding tapered size button for example if using Redding dies. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/57...223-22-caliber

Default 222 mag ?

Both RCBS and Redding make a tapered expander for their sizing dies that make expanding to a larger caliber quite easy. Try lubing the inside of the neck with Redding graphite neck lube first. That burr on the shoulder sounds like a die problem. Hornady has a bleed hole on the shoulder of their dies and can be the source of scratches or burrs.

The burr may be from a slight imperfection in the die that could be polished out. Can you give more detail on it or post a picture? We could offer better ideas if we better understood just what you are seeing.

Has anyone used the RCBS die set to convert .223 to .222mag?

Not sure if a .223 case would stretch far enough to make 222 Mag. Bill K

Agreed. Short brass is what you get when converting .223 to .204, unfortunately.

Ooops! My bad! Was thinking .222 rather than .222mag.
