up to 20X magnification, 50mm - what scopes are you guys using?
I have a Zeiss 4.5 - 14X 44mm Conquest on my Kimber Longmaster Classic.
Would like to step up to a variable with 20X magnification and 50mm lens. What scopes are you guys using that you like? Last edited by flashhole; 06-18-2017 at 09:48 PM. |

I like the Weaver Grand Slam 5-20x50. Natchez has a great deal on them now if you can live with the holdover reticle.

Take a look at the Burris Fullfield E1 6-20x50mm. It has one of the best reticles I've used for varmint hunting. I just bought another one today, on sale at DVOR. Assuming they do everything right, it was a great deal at $375. (fingers crossed, because they don't have the best rep)
Another good option is the Vortex Viper HS-T 6.5-20x50mm with the VMR-1 MRAD reticle. Eric |

Been looking at all three of the ones listed. Thanks for the responses.

Trijicon, Sightron (Japan), Leupold and Nightforce. Some of the good Weavers are Japan, Grand Slam I believe. I have a couple Burris on rimfires but no longer a fan since they went total offshore. See a lot of Vortex being PUSHED so my opinion, the margins must be VERY HIGH. YMMV.

Never been a Leupold fan. Lots of hype over the name but I've seen better performance in lesser expensive scopes.

For shooting critters my first desire is a side focus scope. I have both Leupold 24x max and many of the Viper 6.5-20 standard reticle, ~$350-400 scopes, standard vortex vipers. They are very good for my 50-200 yard average distances, and I usually run the power down in the low teen's for looking over the fields and ramp up to 20x when I spot a Skippy that is available to send to flight school. In heat I have to reduce to about 16 due to mirage, but it seems to my eye both leupold and Vortex have similar problems in heat ( as do I).
I should quit buying pee-shooters and try a Nightforce, but am afraid it is like trying a Jewell trigger, expensive to outfit all my guns with one, and I usually have 3+ centerfires needing good scopes for each trip, and that will be an expensive conversion if Nightforce is much better, again to my eyes, than what I currently run. BTW, I really dislike the "busy" reticle of my Vortex PST ~1200 scope, and the FFP isn't an advantage for me. Allen |

Busy reticles is one of my main concerns. If I'm looking at reticle, I'm not looking at what is down range.
That's one thing I really like about my Zeiss Conquest. A fine cross hair reticle does not take up much in the area of interest. |

Scope
I agree with Allen. A side focus for field shooting is a must for me. If limited to 6.5-20, I would go with the Zeiss Conquest mil-dot. I suggest considering the 6-24 range as there are even more options and a little extra power.
