I have tried CFE Blackout in my .17 hornet, with very good results, in both my CZ .17 hornets, the Varmint is now chopped to 20" with very good accuracy, multiple .250-.350 5 shot, groups with CFE, 12.5gr, with Hornardy brass, Wsr, and 20 v-max for 3624fps.
quite a step up in performace over N120, and H4198 (ADI2207), I was using.

Thanks to all you Hornet shooters. I'm going to order mine Monday. He has 9 in stock but says they are in a warehouse & can't pick wood because they ship direct from warehouse. Hope mine has decent wood as I've seen on some.

Do ya'll think the price is ok or can I do better elsewhere?
$629.00 - $19.00 shipping - no tax - no CC fees.
CZ 527 Varmint 24" .17 Hornet

Thanks,

While I've got you on the phone, do any of you know if the Calhoon single shot follower for the 22 Hornet will work with the 527 17 Hornet?
Does anyone else make a single shot adapter for the 527 17HH that fits flush with the gun?

Thanks,
Jim D

The single shot follower should work just fine with .17 HH. They are used extensively with .19 Calhoon. I have them in my .19 Badgers and ..221 FB's.

They are nicely machined and finished.

Pat,

My friend had that happen with a box of factory ammo. He called Hornady who said they had a problem with a run of ammo that has been corrected. They picked up what he had from that lot and replaced it (and then some).

CZ 527 Varmint 24" .17 Hornet

Thanks,

Any of the places I've ordered guns from, including my 17 Hornet, that's pretty much the going rate.

As for wood, I don't know that any of them come with a bad piece of wood, it's just that some certainly have much better/prettier wood on them. Both of mine have decent wood, just not as nice as some that I've seen but I also replaced the stock on my CZ 527 in 204R with a Boyds Coyote laminate and it looks pretty good.

About 17HH ammo,
I don't ever hear many guys speak about the Federal A&E 20gr. tipped ammo. Is thee a reason? I know it's a little more expensive than Hornady but is the brass better? I don't mind spending a little more if it's accurate & the brass is good.

WELL I DID IT! Ordered my 1st ever CZ today and also my 1st ever CF 17, a 527 Varmint 24" .17 Hornet. Also talked with Jim Calhoon and have a single shot follower & a 17 caliber bore guide coming. My plans are to give it a good long cleaning, torque the action screws, and see how it shoots out of the box.

Do ya'll have a recommended torque value for CZ action screws? Anything thing else I need to do? All I need now is ammo & to figure out what ring height for a 30mm 6x24x50 scope.

Thank all of you & thanks for helping me to spend the kids inheritance money so wisely.

I don't believe the AE 17 Hornet ammo has been out all that long so that may be a contributing factor to why you don't hear much about it. In all honesty, it wouldn't surprise me if it's the exact same ammo as the Hornady Superformance 20gr ammo, just in a different box and with a different head stamp on the brass but that's just a guess.

I use a in.lb torque wrench and torqued mine at 28-30in.lbs

I used Leupold Med. height 30mm rings on my CZ 527 17 Hornet and it turned out really well. The comb height on the CZ 527 stock isn't very high so you'll want to keep that scope as low as you can get it without touching the barrel and in a 30mm ring specifically for the dovetail on the CZ 527's, the Leupold's were the best that I found.

I've bored scoped the barrel on both of my CZ's and they looked pretty typical of a factory barrel, they definitely don't look like a custom barrel lol so don't be surprised if you borescope it and it looks like crap but they sure do shoot extremely well, at least both of mine do and I'll bet yours will be no different.

Everyone has a different cleaning procedure and nylon brushes are sometimes hard to find in .17 caliber but I never use anything but a nylon brush and patches. Unless I have some serious copper build up, all I ever use is Butch's Boreshine, too.

Enjoy your new CZ and let us know how she shoots.

Only you can decide on how to spend your money but I'll definitely say this, there are a lot worse ways to spend your money and I can positively say, if for some reason you don't like it, you'll have NO problem finding someone that'll take it off your hands.

And don't feel you're the only one being affected by the power of suggestion, I've already got one and for some reason I seem to think I need to get another.
