Greetings all,

thank you very much for all your replies.

Bill K,

I would share stories/pictures, but I have none with this topic. I have been shooting 10 m air rifle, skeet and trap, thus, the intended rifle will be my first powder burner, not counting a .22 lr silhouette rifle. I would be more than happy to post its picture, but (1) it is currently at my friend for weight reduction (to meet the 8.5 lb) rules requirement and (2) I am not sure whether it is within the spirit of this forum.

Kindest regards,

M

Single shot on center-fires, 7 round mags on the .17 HMR. Had to go repeater on the HMR just to stay ahead or with of my hunting buddy's rate of fire.
Before he got the Marlin, I used a Martini HMR with perfect results.

I have both single shots and repeaters for CF rifles, but most of my repeaters are fit with Score High followers, effectively making them single shots.

most varmints i shoot single load except fox and coyote. have had as many as 7 coyotes and 9 fox show up on 2 separate stands. single shot would have been a real handi-cap, actually had to switch magazines (ruger 77 17 ah) to get all 9 fox.

My friend Dave had to reload his sako L461(17 Remington) to get all 7 coyotes. when the shooting was over he looked at me and said "i could have used a little help you know. my reply was simple "i never interfere with a professional at work. Never did tell him my rifle jammed, I sure miss him.
He was so excited he thought the last coyote he shot was a 100 yds away, when i found him it was 200. funny thing he had hit the coyote square between the eyes.

Default Single or repeater

I have some of both and use them off a bench for PDs. If I could have only one, I’d go with repeater. But nothing wrong with single shot bolt guns.

A single shot is easier to deal with brass. I LOVE left bolt right port for varmints. I find with a repeater other than an AR with a brass bag, I am constantly freeking out about loosing brass.
