May want to check the twist on the swift, it is old time, even before the 22-250 which started with a 1 in 14, bet most of the older Swifts were that or longer. Larry

Default honest hop

I call it 'The Mighty Swift'!! I have 5. 40-43 gr. of H414, AA2700. I downed truckloads of yotes and red fox. for years I used 52 gr. Sierra HPBT's then went to 55 gr. Nosler Ballistic tips for longer range 'anchors'. if I was gonna 'snipe a fox', i'd use the 'Mighty 17 Remington', one is a model 7, 10x Unertl Vulture external. is short and I have it 'receiver mounted. 1000's of p.d's. 2 Ruger s.s. M77's, Ruger #1, canjur set trigger, going on it's 3rd barrel, Sako 30'' bull, 700 BDL. all are 'tuned for varmints Leupy's, Burris or Unertl glass. I used primarily IMR 4320, then AA2700 and AA 2520. 24 or so gr's, on or .005'' off lands, 25 gr. Hornady H.P'S. if fur is you goal, either trap or the 220 Swift AND the 17 Rem. those 2 cartridges will cover the full spectrum of varmint collection. being able to place 'the hole' in the best fur friendly spot is not always optimum. 400-500 yard running yotes is a reality with The Mighty Swift!! the last time I loaded for the #1, it was doing 1''. used to do consistent .250''. now there is over a 1/4'' of space between the bullet's tail to the neck mouth. time to set back or replace. if your gonna whine on about 'barrel burners', get an airsoft. 5000 rounds of any hot rod bullet eats throats. but when you whack a running yote at distances that trip your hunting pals mind, it's worth that little bit of land erosion!!

Welcome aboard honest hop! Got nothing of substance to add to this thread. Have enjoyed following it, though.

The early ones were 16" - same as the Hornets. In order to beat 4,000fps, Winchester went with the 48gr. SP for factory ammo - which was fine in the slow twist.

My current .22-250 M700 Varmint Remington has a 14", however it stabilizes 50gr. TSX and 62gr.Nosler Varmegeddon HP's quite nicely. I expect the 50TSX are running 3,850fps and the 62's about 3,550fps from the 26" bl. Haven't chrono-tested them yet.

A 14" Swift 24" should do as well, or maybe better with these bullets.

Default 220s

I have shot a lot of prairie dogs with the swift, but gave that cartridge up for the 204 ruger on PDs.
I like the 220S a lot on coyotes. I shoot 50 grain ballistic tips over 39.5 IMR 4064.
