20 Var targ rough primers
I am having trouble with rough primers on my 20 Var targ load. I've tried varying the OAL's, tried various powders, and changed primers. The primers always seem rough to your fingernail. I am shooting a Cooper Model 21. I will appreciate any help or suggestions.

is the load cratering the primer? sometimes an oversized firing pin hole will cause cratering or blanking under pressure. is the bolt face gas cut and rough from blown primers? that's about all i can think of that would make the primer rough.

Thanks for the reply. I was beginning to be suspicious of an enlarged firing pin hole. The loads aren't near max. and the bolt face is smooth and seems square. Is there a solution to the the enlarged firing pin? The tech guys at Cooper never offer much help. This gun has always had rough primers with any load combination.
