Default 223 rem BRNO 601

Tested out a 601 for the first time ,and was slightly disappointed with 1.5 - 2 inch groups (5 shot ) at 100 yards . Tried CFE 223 powder with 40 gr V max ,40 gr Varmagedon ,and 50 Hornady SX .,205m primer . I will go thru the bedding and glass bed and retry . I may also try recrowning as well .

Rifle showed promise as 3 shots would group nicely and 2 would be out .

Why don't I go ahead and bed a rifle before I shoot it.
I know I am eventually going to bed it.
My son's CZ 223 American shot those big groups, but 1/2" or less after bedding. Kenny

I have never bedded one, to have it shoot worse after.

Default chris allen and 601 bedding

I'd be very interested to see a few photos of the bedding job on the 601.

John I dont know how to post pictures on this site . If you want to pm me with a personal e-mail or lead me thru how to post pictures .
Chris

I disassembled the trigger assemby , bolt stop etc so there was no hardware on the barrel and receiver. All the cut outs for the bolt stop ,trigger assembly were filled with modeling clay and sculptued to the receiver .I use a furniture (bees wax ) as a release agent .I probably coated it at least 5 times ,over kill I'm sure but I want to make sure nothing sticks . I used an industrial steel epoxy kit as my bedding material . Roughed up the areas of the stock where i want the epoxy to stick and try to put just the right amount of epoxy to fill the areas once the bbl action is installed (that is definitely an experience thing ) I have had a few where I did not put enough in and had voids and others where I put to much in and wasted and major clean up . Im at a point where I can gauge quite close how much material to use ,as I have bedded hundreds of rifles in my career. I put the bbl and reciever into the stock and only use the stock screws as a guide , I use surgical tubing wrapped around the reciever and stock to suck everthing together .

Kinda a general overview .
Chris
Release agent -Release agent -Release agent -Release agent- Release agent !!!!!!!!
