If it will id pick that due to the lapua brass that's available. and easy forming, all the while using less powder, unless a person needs to having the fastest on the block.

Here is a copy and paste from 17 shooter.....

I now have two rifles in the 17 Tac and I like that cartridge a lot. I use the 30 GR. Gold bullets for both Coyotes and Groundhogs and it is very accurate and very deadly...I have tried several different powders and I setteled on Varget...As Joez said, with the lapua brass and good bullets, its very flat shooting and 4000 fps is no problem....I think you will like it a little better than t he 17 Rem..George

17pos (Predator on Steroids) print

If my math is correct this one is a short-necked rascal @ .121".
The Predator neck length = .15"
I think this might be Dan C's pic.

Very good information. I know that each of us can use the info, but I appreciate your comments, pictures, and diagrams. All quite helpful. I think that I feel at this point of going with the Tac. Thanks again and keep it coming. D

H-414 (28grs) and Varget (26grs) both gave me 4,000+ fps using 30 gr Kindlers without any coating from a 25" barrel Dakota Predator.

I got 3950 with Varget and 30gr Golds in my 17 Tac. I cant say what the charge was as I dont have that info infront of me at this time and wont post something from memory. I think it may have been on the ragged edge of the pressure curve in my rifle. If I load them again I might back it off a couple tenths. No doubt I will be shooting it in warmer weather than 20deg!

This is an outstanding topic for a guy with a bad case of cabin fever that's standing here going back and forth from one foot to the other waiting for "The Big Brown Truck" carrying a .17 Tactical to show up .
