Default 2015 Colorado Prairie Dog Reports??

I'm heading out to Eastern Colorado in a couple of weeks. I will be in the Lamar/Holly area. I have not been there in 4 years. I will have to stay on private ranches because public ground does not open for PD shooting until 6/1.
I am curious if anyone has been out there or know of anyone that has been there this year?

That area of eastern Colorado, western Kansas remains in a significant, severe drought. Have not shot there this year but last year dog populations were down and food supply was bleak. Even the animals looked smaller. Those we did shoot were pretty spooky from lots of pressure.
Hope it works out well for you. Have fun and spend lots of money here.

Default Haven't been out much yet

Bob , Just haven't looked to much yet but have been getting some moisture so at least may have some pups survive , but our breeding stock was so low our numbers are not going to be great. If you get close to Holly check and see if I am around !! Heck

I'm heading to the exact same area in a couple weeks. Hopefully there is a decent amount.

Default Heck

I'll check in with you when I roll through Holly. It has been 4 years since my last visit. Moisture is up I hear and should be pup season. I'll be in Lamar on the 28th for sure.

We've been having quite a bit of rain down this way the past month. Double last yrs already. I haven't been out in several yrs now. but, that's what goes by here in Pueblo headed that way nearly everyday.
Check with Rider, his folks live at Campo. He'd know what's been happening down there I think.

Harold:
You get down the road this far south, I'll buy you a lunch at Rita's. How's that sound pard?

Although not so far south and east, I can tell you that the pups were out in force last weekend. I shoot'em west of Limon and the area isn't in such as bad shape as far as drought conditions go.

Default PDs and pups

This certainly should be the time of year for pups with the rainfall Holly area has had this year and last. Few years before that have been rough on all wildlife..
I am very excited to get back out there and shoot some pds..

6 rifles are ready with ammo to spare.

Cooper 17 AH
Cooper 17 AB
xp-100 17 FB
Rem 700 17 REM
Ruger #1 22 K-Hornet

Let the fun begin

Default Road conditions in S.E. Colo.

Information for all of you varmint shooters venturing into S.E.
Colo. (Prowers, Bent, and Baca counties)
My Dad and brother returned from the farm today after checking out the place. They tried to check the wheat crop but the "main" roads were nearly impassable. There has been three to six inches of slow rain in the area in the past week or so. It would not be advisable to try to drive across any pastures. Jacks and tow straps may be as necessary as plenty of ammo. The numbers of p-dogs seems to be pretty good in Baca County however large portions are Forest Service land and do not open for shooting until 6-1.
