CCI label on recent purchase 17 Mach 2
Just received my brick of 17 Mach 2 from Cabelas.com and all boxes have a CCI label (not Hornady). I doubt this would be new old stock as I don't think they would sit on a pallet of 17 Mach 2 for 4 or 5 years before selling it.
Some folks on RimfireCentral said they had heard of CCI recently expanding the square footage and number of machines in the rimfire production area. If this shipment represents new CCI marketing of the cartridge then I will assume they are optimistic about future demand for the cartridge - until I hear otherwise. |

Addendum to original note:
FROM: bulletin.accurateshooter.com
With Increased Production, Rimfire Ammo Prices Drop Dean Weingarten explains: “The new .22 rimfire plant in Lewiston, Idaho, is online. Vista Outdoor, which owns the CCI and Federal brands, has increased rimfire production for both brands by 20 percent (20%). And demand is dropping. With end of the Obama administration, the .22 ammunition bubble is deflating. Most stores have ammunition available. Prices are coming down.” From the Lewiston Tribune, November 10th, 2017: Vista Outdoor recently debuted a new, 37,000-square-foot, $35 million rimfire ammunition plant near the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport, which has resulted in what company officials describe as a “very satisfying” reduction in the time needed to complete an order. Vista Outdoor has reduced ammunition prices to maintain market share as its customers work through stockpiles they amassed under the administration of Barack Obama — when they feared new regulation that never came to pass: “We’re the market leader in rimfire. Brand preference in ammunition tends to be somewhat sticky. It took us a long time to gain our market share. … We are loathe to cede that during a period of challenging pricing because it’s going to be very difficult to get that back.” |

Sounds great. Maybe I'll wait til next summer and order
a bunch just for back up for the next 'shortage'. By then, the price's should be way down if they're over stocked. No more than I shoot it, these 5 boxes will surely last that long. IF they don't, it'll be because the local feral cats have multiplied. Sure wish I could get decent shot at that gray female. Blew a big hunk of hair off the top of her head once, now she's as wild as cats ever get. Just didn't allow quite enough for the scope height. she flipped end over like I'd nailed her brain, but, took off running hard, still does when I open the door. Still killed a dozen banded dove's this summer. Not a one left now. Saw her after a squirrel a week ago. Sure looked like she was gonna catch it but, it got to a tree in time. Hell of a chase though. Across the street in a neighbors yard is kinda chancy shooting.

CCI makes the 17HM2 ammo for Hornady, so it would make sense for them to crank out a bunch to sell themselves (again). The CCI Stinger had it's 40th anniversary this year, so they made a lot of Stinger cases to cover that. I'm sure that helped with the added Mach2 ammo released this year.

Another reason for CCI back in the market?
Perhaps Vista Outdoors has a business plan to increase the market for 17 HM2?
Since Vista owns Savage and they have already tamed the 17 HMR and 22 WMR cartridges in a semi-auto rifle (Savage A17 and A22 Mag), they might be willing to take the chance and invest time and money in manufacturing this rifle in 17 HM2. (?) (?) I think they could resurrect this cartridge with a safe, dependable semi-auto rifle, unlike the first attempts to convert existing blowback operating rimfire rifles to 17 HM2. Let's hope Vista recognizes and listens to those of us who would buy a Savage A17 HM2...... Last edited by trelliswires; 11-22-2017 at 08:18 AM. Reason: Correction. |

TW:
Yes sir, that would make a dandy for p/dogs and ground squirrels that move around so much. Just might buy one of 'em myself.

Seeing continued new production gets me interested in getting a HM2. It looks like a nice round. I do not know if I really need (or want) a 17 HMR or 22 WMR when I have multiple 22 Hornets and am a Hornet fan.

Love my HM2's...I have a couple of HMR's, more WMR's than I care to admit & of course 22LR's than I will ever admit to my wife. That all said, HM2 is one of my most favorite rounds of all time. I guess that's why I have 5 of them. All are CZ's including a fancy grade stocked Varmint, factory threaded Varmint & a ultra rare 453 American....& bought 12,000 rounds way back when. I'll not get rid of any of them.
That said, glad to see this. Thx for posting it, it made my day. |

I sold my stash of HM2 ammo, but still have an unfired Marlin 917VLS or what ever they list it as. I just never found the need for a smaller round than an HMR. I probably should sell it, or convert it to an HMR, because it's probably will just be a dust collector.

New here but I too love the M2. If you can find some Eley it seems to be the standard for that caliber.
