Sight Picture
I'm itching to build something new and was wondering what's the largest small caliber i can go with and still be able to see my shots on PD's. Don't want to get to heavy. It needs to be truck friendly. Thanks

That's what I did sold 2 22-250s after I trip west 204 is wonderful for seeing threw your scope in a PD field.

There are a lot of variables here, how heavy do you want to go, how large a cartridge, and the clincher would you consider a muzzle brake? I have 2, 220 Swifts one is a plain Ruger 77V with out a brake and one heavy 98 with a brake, one you can not see what happens when you shoot and with the heavy gun you can watch everything. Need more info....

Already got the 20 tact and 204. Is there any possibility of a 20BR maybe with a 26" barrel.

Why not have one of your existing 20cal cut to 24" and install a muzzle brake.
Keep the scope setting below 16X,and off a good rest, you should be able to see most hits. |

I,m OK with the 204 and the sight pic. Just wanted to go bigger. Hoping for a 20BR you think maybe with a brake would calm it down enuf to see 200yd plus shots at 20X.

just build it heavy...if it is to be a bench gun...I have one in a savage action with a 23" #7-1/2 barrel, it does pretty good, without a brake, to see your shots at 20X.
It has a heavy laminated stock too, it is a heavy gun. Larry

I put a brake on my 220 Swift & it hardly moves. Can see every shot at 20X no problem. Makes them LOUD though.

Brakes work awesome. Had one on my first 243 and it jumped less than a walker weight 223 did. A 26" barrel helps the noise some. Mass matters. Nothing like a 15# gun or better for off the bag shooting. Put a brake on it, get it over 13#'s and it will have the recoil of a 22LR.
