try pictures again with a small ring mauser
This is a small ring that my uncle "liberated" from Germany in WWII
I had the furniture refinished but the metal is original. I posted more and better pictures on page 2. Last edited by rider; 11-26-2017 at 12:37 AM. Reason: more pics |

SW It is chambered in 8x57. It is a much prettier stock than my pictures show. The entire receiver and bottom metal is engraved. The barrel is octagon at the receiver and transitions to round at the end of the forearm with a solid rib. The rear sight in a three leaf tip up.

AND you're still buying more guns???
Need to build one of those rooms into a full sized gun safe room like that prof Brown had.

Rider, that is just an exquisite rifle. I love octagonal barrels, and the half-octagon/half-round is very very nice. The engraving is beautiful. Looks like an elk on the ring, but could be some kind of large European deer.
Who was the maker? |

I can find no indication of the maker. Some have suggested that it is a guild gun. (used in apprenticeship training ) I have examined the engraving with a lens and to my untrained eye can find no imperfections. The checkering does have some over runs. I will try to get better pictures at some time. These do not start to show the true color and grain of the wood. It has more sentimental value that any firearm that I own. If you look closely at the left side checkering panel you will see a light spot. There is another on upper rib of the barrel. They are the index finger and thumb print of my uncle. The story was that he was painting the house when a coyote happened by. Any way when I had the stock refurbished I instructed the gunsmith that those spots were not to be disturbed. I am sure that the animal represented would be a red deer. Rider Last edited by rider; 11-23-2017 at 02:36 AM. Reason: additional info |
