Default Winchester 43 in 218 bee

Anyone have this gun.
What could one expect for accuracy in this gun?
Any 218 bee rifles made these days that one could shoot sub 1"'groups at 100 yards.

Cooper Model 38. My Cooper Model 38VE will shoot 3/8 moa 5 shot 100 yard groups. Now discontinued Ruger No.1's in 218 Bee that I have seen are capable of 3/4 to 1 moa. Used to own a Win. Model 43 Deluxe that would do 3/4 to 1 moa. The Model 43 is a weak action and some of the asking prices now days are ridiculous.

Default Cooper 218 bee

Are these all single shots, or has cooper made repeaters in the 38 action?

I to love the 218 Bee but my dream is a Marlin 1894 CL, very few made it down under so the only way is an import from the US its expensive but if I can find a really nice one I think i'll go ahead .

If anyone here has a nice clean rifle for sale let me know please

Single shots. Cooper's early effort to make a Model 38 repeater chambered in 17 and 22CCM was a flop.

ruger no 1 in 218 bee, this one shoots one hole groups at 100 yards. the rifle has a hicks accurizer and a moyer trigger at 2#. my apology to the gent down under that lust after this rifle ever time I post a pic of it.

the previous post is correct model 43 has a weak action, not well heat treated and mild hot loads will set the headspace back and cause head separation of the case. the bolt handle is a locking lug like a 22 rimfire. Winchester bought the design for the 43 from savage and was never meant to be a center fire,
that's probably more info than you wanted.
a good one will shoot .75" but most are 1" and up on groups.

All Cooper 38s are indeed single shots. Cooper made a Model 40 which is a clip repeater.

Some 43s will group rather well, remember they are just an overgrown rimfire action similar to the 69 and 69As. I have a 22 Hornet in 43 that will shoot sub inch groups. The 2 43s I had in 218 Bee would not.

I have a 38 Custom Classic and a Ruger No 1 than will group 5/8 and less if I do my work.

Seems like the Sako L46 was made in 218 Bee.

I have a couple of the No.1S models in 218, donors for a 218 Mashburn project. Both will eventually have Shilen barrels.

Any No.1 can be made into a 218 of your choice with a flip of the wrist, one of the endearing properties of the No.1 action.

df06: I bought a used Model 43 WIN in 218 Bee in ((( 1963 ))), with a old K6 or K8 El Paso Weaver on it 54 years ago. There is a Old 6 X 18 Denver Redfield on it now. This was my first Centerfire Rifle, Varmint Rifle, and the first Rifle I ever bought with my own money. I have reloaded & shot this rifle 1000`s of times in the last 54 years. And I always used IMR4227 Powder and REM 45gr HP`s or WIN 46gr HP`s Bullets to reload with. And my 218 Bee would always group under an inch most all the time. But the Hornady 35gr V-Max Bullets and IMR 4227 Powder gave my rifle a new lease on life, my rifle will now shoot a 1/2 inch group or less now. It seems to me that my 218 Bee Win Model 43 Rifle likes little short fat bullets more than anything else that I have tried. I have over the years shot a Boxcar load of Varmints with it. IMHO my 218 Bee is just a great Varmint Rifle and to me it is just drop dead gorgeous. And I like it more every time I use it.

Default 218 bee

Thanks for all the responses. I have had four ruger #1s, a 22h, a 223 and two 22 PPCs. The latter three were heavy barreled. I tried all the accurizers, replacement triggers etc and never got an acceptable level of accuracy. They are a beautiful gun, but I swore off them.
Think I'll look into the cooper, model 38.
