Default T/C Encore .17wsm ignition problems...

Got my .17wsm MGM barreled Encore to the range yesterday, accuracy was all I could ask for but about 60% of the time I had to re-cock the hammer and "hit it again" to get ignition. When it fired firing pin strikes looked excellent but it was annoying to say the very least, I know the WSM has a reputation for somewhat hard ignition due to the thicker case but this has to be fixed. Any suggestions appreciated, I'm thinking perhaps a stronger hammer spring but I figure its likely something encountered before.

Would a stronger hammer spring help? I installed one as part of an accuracy package. Not sure if it helps but cheap.

How far off is the firing pin strike from the edge of the case head?

Default T/C Encore .17wsm ignition problesm...

Think you will find it could be a combo issue of light hammer spring and a little extra headspace in your action. If you go to Bellm's TC you will read info on how to check headspace and correct it on the TC frames. Bill K

FYI, I replace my hammer springs on my IHMSA TC's on a yearly basis.

Good suggestions, actually called Bellm and talked with Kurt, he gave me the 411, suggestion one replace the hammer spring...cheap and easy and if that doesn't work check headspace and go from there.

Thanks all..

Never messed with Encores, but have several G1 Contenders.

Bellm Spring was necessary on both my frames in order to get my MGM 17 WSM Barrel to light off.

And, you may need 3 hands to get the spring installed (if its anything like a contender).

In any event, sounds like your on your way to a fix. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the warning, I've got their trigger job booklet coming as part of the package, if it appears beyond my capabilities I'll gladly hand it over to my gunsmith.
