My T/C Encore is showing potential, but if my B-mag had shot as well as your Ruger I'd still have it...

First two 50 yard 5 shot groups from the T/C

Center chest hold

Head hold...I think I'm going to like it once I get the light strikes cured and a Bellm kit is on its way.

Any of those three choices would be great, Matt. Especially the Cooper or the Annie for me.

In the meantime, I'm glad that I "rolled the dice" in First Stop Guns last fall as my 77/17 shoots the 20 grain ammo extremely well. I plan to try some 15 gran stuff in it this weekend on some small critters down country.

This new one has been "bothering" me a bit of late. I keep saying no but who knows what the future holds? It looks pretty handy for toting around...........

That "First Stop" sure does have a nice offering of rifles. I haven't been there first hand, but I tend to look at their "GunsAmerica.com" listings on a regular basis, they have very fair prices. I almost bought a Ruger 77 in 19 calhoon hornet from them about 8 months ago. I'm kicking myself now that I didn't.

I'm glad you are enjoying your Ruger 17 WSM. Have a fun shoot and keep us posted on how it goes trying out those 15 grainers.

As far as that new 18.5" Laminate Ruger 77/17 WSM.........I'm right there with you. I've got to have one, and Lord willing, I will have one soon. I'm thinking a loss of around 75 FPS is totally worth the handiness going from 24" down to 18.5".

And, I'm glad they kept the heavy barrel contour on that model as well. It doesn't take long in a field full of rats around here to heat up even a .17 WSM barrel.

Annie would be nice, heck, I'd even be interested in the CZ, as long as they look at a Savage B-Mag and go the opposite direction in design

Default I like Ruger....

Nothing wrong with them,I am glad to see another offering from them as well.I am “bothered”by the fact that I don’t have a 17WSM yet.I am kinda waiting for a Cooper and feel that once they jump on board the future of the 17WSM would be that much stronger.I am slightly leery of the 5mm’s fate perhaps happening to the 17WSM.I will probably just get the Ruger 77/17 and be happy....and a “ton”
of ammo for it.

Austin, a trip to First Stop is a lot of fun.

I live in a true gun shop rich environment with several very large gun shops that are within 30 minutes to an hour from my home. They keep my "needs" satisfied.

However. a trip north that includes going anywhere near Rapid City has to involve at least an hour stop at First Stop for me. Its not real large as gun shops go, but the inventory in unique stuff of all kinds is great, usually with excellent prices. And they typically always have a lot more stuff than they show on the net (read as they have a huge basement).

Good advice, Matt............

Having been an original 5mm owner who learned the hard way, I have a "laid in/dormant" supply of 17 WSM to last me a good while, and I also have a working supply of 17 WSM. When I shoot a couple of boxes from the working supply, they get replaced quickly. Just in case I might find them to be unobtainium, at some point, to quote Dave (DAA)..........

Once again I succumbed to sin and weakness..........

Since I first became enamored by the 17 WSM awhile back, Ruger has added to their 17 WSM stable. They are now selling a 20" blue/walnut sporter weight rifle and this 18.5" stainless/laminate stock rifle.

This rifle is about 7 pounds with the varmint weight barrel per Ruger's information, but it balances nicely with the scope aboard.

I haven't shot it yet as we are playing the grand parent game this week with our two grand daughters with us. I did get time to mount a scope on it today while the "ladies" had lunch at a tea room. The scope is a Nikon PROSTAFF 5 4.5x18x40 scope with a thin cross hair and dot reticle. It has side focus parallax adjustment.

I also checked the trigger pull, and I'm not sure how to say this as you're supposed to have the trigger on Rugers worked on immediately. Directly from the box with zilch done to it, the trigger breaks at a very smooth, crisp, and consistent 30 ounces................ That's great for a hunting rifle for me.

The next task is to shoot it this weekend. I hope it shoots as well as the stainless/walnut Ruger 77/17 rifle with the 24" barrel that began this 17 WSM journey for me.....
