CM or SS barrel?
I am about to drop the hammer on an MGM 17 Hornady Hornet carbine barrel for my G1 Contender. I am having a hard time choosing between the Chrome Moly or the Stainless barrel. Besides the $25 cost difference, what are the pros and cons of each?
I have a MGM stainless 357 Magnum carbine barrel for my Contender now, and I like the "look," but as far as for a varmint cartridge from which I'm going to try to extract the most accuracy, which would be better? Or does it matter? |

CM or SS barrel ?
Each one, accuracy wise, will depend on the load/s you work up. As far as if either is more accurate, I belief one is just as good as the other. cosmetic is more the choice. What looks better too you ? My .02 worth, for what it is worth. I have both on a couple of contenders and can not say one shoots better than the other. Bill K

When my custom was built I was told that unless its going to be a throw around out in the elements constantly that there is no need for stainless steel.

SS or CM
Besides the obvious rust resistance of SS and the bluing wear in some places on a CM barrel, there’s not much difference, in my view.
I like SS but that’s a cosmetic thing. |

Benchrest shooters use SS barrels, so that's what I'd choose.

At merely a $25 premium from MGM...........the Stainless would be a mandatory thing for me.
It was when I bought my MGM 17 WSM barrel, and I have no regrets. |
