Default 20 Tactical vs 20 Practical

I have been considering these two instead of building a 204 Ruger. Mostly because of the over all length since I would be using a 223 donor which may not allow longer 204 rounds to fit the magazine. I assume most may pick the 20 Tactical, but I was wondering how much difference in performance there is between the two?

I see 20 Tactical dies but none for 20 Practical. Other than a custom die set or a 223 bushing die, how would you form and resize for a 20 Practical? Thanks!

A search here could bring up lots of good data, no expert but I'll give you my 2 cents.

Number one, either one is a much better choice than the 204R , just on a brass basis alone.

Two, I have both and there is no real performance difference that can be measured in the field. Few fps at best....20Tac=20Prac=204R.

Last, all of mine perform very well, not a huge fan of the shorter neck and shallow shoulder on the 20Prac, but mine shoots a ragged hole at 200yds. Hard to argue with that. 20Prac just entails a 223 S die with appropriate bushings for desired neck tension.

I'm shooting a 20 Prac AI, I went this way because its just one pass with a .230 bushing in an "S" die and all I have to do is fire form. I would think that a standard 20 Prac would be the same. Mine shoots 40gr Bergers in one hole at 100yds and almost as good with the 40 Vmax. The velocity's are running neck and neck with my 204's.

Default 20 Tac Prac

Sounds like you want to use the magazine, make up or borrow some 20 Tac rounds and make sure they feed at length and bullets you hope to use. If it feeds, go with the 20 tac. But either way there is so little difference between the two. Good luck sgtg
PS my 20 Tac. loves 8208 or CFE 223 CCI 450 I use 20 Tac. Hornady dies but if you have a 223 bushing die get a bushing and do the 20 Prac.
