Default Remington 700 question?

I've picked up a 1982 made Remington 700 in 17 Remington. While going over it and doing a little cleaning, Noticed that when I dropped the floor plate a metal spacer at the back of the magazine fell out. Checked the diagram on line and don't even see this spacer. When I put it back it floats and rattles while moving the rifle. For anyone with a 700, did the previous owner take it apart and not get things back together or even lose something?

Default A piece

Of double sided sticky tape will take care of the rattle.

Default 700

It should not fall out, take gun apart and assemble the magazine box properly. There is a clip that holds the spacer in, and double sided tape will hold it in properly.

Ahhh, here's MY cure for such things regardless of what it is.

Finger tip amount of DAP clear.

Will clean off later if/when desired. I keep it handy, you might not.
