Looks like a nice one at that. I have nearly purchased one, on several occasions, just never pulled the trigger Right now, I'm not even sure I own a shotgun...oh yeah, just a couple oldies, nothing spectacular, not even worth mentioning.

how is it you get to hunt waterfowl in the spring? must be because they get up there, to make the U-turn to come back down here. Lucky you.

Around here, the swans and cranes will get you a hefty fine, and a room in the crow bar hotel

looks like you had some nice shooting, mixed bag of birds. Good eats!

Larry

Larry, we are allowed to hunt the spring in rural AK as part of a subsistence hunting season. It is really quite liberal in regulations. There are no bag limits and the list of birds that can be harvested is a long one and due the availability of light all day you can shoot around the clock legally. Like you I was amazed with being able hunt waterfowl in the spring, sometimes I still feel like Im doing something illegal! The birds are excellent eating in the spring and even better in the fall after a summer of eating tundra berries. The birds stage here before heading out to the coast where their nesting grounds are located. They will return to stage here in mid August before heading south, usually the last of the birds are gone by the end of sept.. That is a sandhill crane in the photo, my first, and they are excellent eating. I wish I could have gotten more of them. They are the ribeye of the sky. Thanks for the comments!

Around the clock Duck Hunting Wow How do you know when to go home. My dad and i already hunt dawn till dusk many days we would die from exhaustion if we did not have sun down to tell us "hey try again another day"

Great pictures, wonderful colors too.
Was looking in the brush behind you in the first one for a brownie.
Only thing I see is what looks like a does head over your left shoulder &
a bit further out. Anyone else see that image? OR is it just my imagination
running wild? haha!

Never knew the sandhill's have the chestnut breast/neck. Never gotten up close to one though. We do have a season on them here in CO. I've gotten the numbers a few times but, never had a shot.
