Default 17-222 Load Data...

So, I'm nearing completion of my 17-222 wildcat (Sako L461 action). As you might expect, I have found very little load data for this puppy. I am interested in using Benchmark, maybe 18 grs to start with Berger 25 gr Varmint Match bullets. Thoughts? I'm new to this wildcat stuff, so any words of wisdon are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I only shoot Ramshot Tac and 25 gr V-Max bullets in mine.... There is a guy who is around here and is probably the king of 17-222s and I think he also uses Benchmark, maybe he will see this sometime and add a comment....

The 17-222 is one awesome 17 caliber round!!!

The 17/222 has been used a bit downunder.
Benchmark is very close to IMR3031 in burning rate and in Nick Harveys reloading manual he lists-

25gn bullet- starting load IMR3031 17gns for 3370 fps -max. load 21.5gns for 3896fps

This should get you started and of course the usual reminder that this is only a guide and start low and work up- Good luck

Cheers

so are the cases easy to form??

I was planning on using the MK4 forming dies at least as the first step of necking down and then using a 17 cal bushing in a 222 die for final sizing or is there a better way??

I am considering this because the 17 Rem I am considering buying has a bit of throat erosion and the barrel will need to be set back to give it a new lease on life.

Cranky -where are you and do you have a 17/222- if in Melbourne can I come and see you?

thanks
