Thumbs up 17 remington fireball news!!

I contacted the editor of the magazine that ran the article on the .17 remington fireball.. He told me it WILL BE a factory offering for 2007.
The load of 4,000fps will be a factory load.. That is all the information he gave me.. I thought you guys would like to know.. I would really like to own one of these in a 700 LV SF..

Default We'll see

It was in Predator and Prey magazine, and I was also told this was a go by the editor. However, the Rem people refused to confirm or deny because of "competative concerns." And my local Remington Rep said, "I don't think I'd cancel my plans to build a Mach4 just yet." I hope they bring it out, but who knows with Big Green. -John

predator and prey.. I called remington and they DID confirm it was going to come out in 2007..They also said that alot of remington employees didn't even know about it yet.. They told me they can't release any information on the round until mid-December.. I think the magazine article ran too early..

They should have done a .20 Fireball instead. But this is good news for .17 fans.

I sure hope they make it available in the laminated SS sporter. Sure would be a great fur friendly calling rifle for foxes, bobcats and an occasional coyote for us deprived Eastern predator hunters.

Yeah Fireball
You'd think they'd want a piece of the 20 caliber action since that's the only one currently in production that they don't have any part of except the cases.. Guess when they get their own 20 cal bullet design set up they may make an attempt at it.
Question-- Has Remington ever come out with a chambering they don't make a bullet for?? Just wondering!!

Default Like I said, we'll see

I don't doubt for a minute that the above info is valid. But I also know from past experience that if six of us call the P.R people at big green (Or any of the big companies for that matter - wasn't there a go around over Midway awhile back?) we'll come back with six different answers. And while I don't doubt that some employees would be in the dark, I'd almost think that the dealer reps would have some insight. But then again maybe not. I sincerely hope this comes to fruition, but I guess I'm begining to gat a little cynical over rumors, and magazine hype. Heck, I remember getting all excited about an article by Rick Jamison descibing the impending release of a new 17 rimfire cartridge in a Shooting Times, and having a long talk with a Winchester Rep that assured me they were not only going to back the round but would offer a lever action and a bolt action rifle for it. TEN YEARS later Hornady at long last gave us the 17 rimfire. I'm not going to pop the cork on the bubbly quite just yet. But there's always hope. -John

Just after I posted above, I found out on another board that I was being too negative and selfish about this topic. I'm sorry to all If that's true. It's not my intention to step on toes, but simply to pass on what I found out in the past week. I'll keep out of it. -John

Old Goat, Remington no longer makes 17 caliber bullets. All their factory stuff is loaded with Hornady.....

And if they're claiming 4000 fps as I read it must be a 20 gr. Vmax as used in the 17 Rem factory load. But I guess they DID make them once upon a time...
