Nonsense, I don't see it that way at all. I was a bit surprised when I saw that statement. Please keep up the input.....

Thanks. Didn't realize Remington stopped making the 25 .172's. I had some once but couldn't make them shoot better than shotgun patterns so used them up fireforming and never looked for anymore..

Default just something for everyone to think about

remington has always had trouble getting the short cases to feed or eject thru a 700 action. chance are they may go forward with the 17 rem fireball in the 799 action to avoid the aforementioned problems.
having built several 17 mach 4's and 221 fb on the mini mauser action it is a given it will feed and eject.

food for thought

If they do it certainly has to be good for us small caliber guys due to more acceptance by the general public and more reloading components. In that 799 it would be a neat little rifle as well. If they did I might have to break down and buy one just to show support......then rebarrel it with a Pac-Nor barrel and get a custom chamber. I'm afraid Greg Tannel has ruined me.
Truth be told if Remington had any sense they would have been the ones that tied up with Todd Kindler and produced the Tact .20, the .20 VarTarg as well as the .17 MachIV. It would have been a no brainer since they introduced the parent cases to begin with.
Oh, and the .20BR in a 40X as well.

Actually I've heard Remington is not far behind Winchester and in bad financial straights as we speak, sure hope not. Dakota I could care less about, Remington and Winchester are American institutions.

Default I agree Dan.

For a smaller factory .17 to run 4,000fps, they'd have to be talking about the 20gr. Vmax, afterall, Hornady already supplies the components for the Remington Rimfire ammo.
; With Remington, it is not difficult to be negative - I have a difficult time not remembering the BR's and lack of support from Remington.

Yeah, "speaking" of the 5MM Mag. When the .17HMR took off like a ballistic missle and they didn't reintroduce the 5MM with it's nifty little shoulders I figured they'd all had lobotomys at Remingtons corporate offices. Not to mention the .22 and 6BR's they never made ammo for, stupidity of the first magnitude!
Foxhunter you and Daryl oughta go run the place and slap some sense into em. Tell em if they make one more short fat magnum hunting round you'll choke em senseless Those guys shoot a box of ammo a year, "maybe". We shoot thousands, go figure.

Remington has made runs of 6BR factory ammo. I've only seen it twice, the last time was in the late 90's and there was one single box sitting on a gun shops shelf. I should have purchased it as a collectors item. If I remember corectly it was loaded with 80 grain bullets.

I heard earlier in the year that they were possibly going to chamber the 20BR in the XR-100

Default Betcha it'll be a 10 twist...

I think a LVSF in this 17 Fireball might be neat.
One would think a 9 twist would make better sense, but I'm sure
the engineers will find I reason that it would have to be a 10 twist.

Matt
P.S. It will still be fun to see what they come out with.

Default I think the rumor is true....

I had my 17 Mach IV rechambered and the new chamber had a .201 neck instead of the standard .199 neck. About every fifth shot would result in a split neck. The gunsmith checked with the reamer maker and he said the reamer was based on the upcoming 17 Fireball! The neck is also slightly longer than the standard (if there is such a thing with a wildcat) 17 Mach IV. Understand Remington has already made the brass.
Cheers, Glenn
