A friend just bought one of these little rifles in .22 Hornet and is looking for set of rings that are lower than the factory set. Scope sets over 2" above the bore now and we'd like to get it down. Anyone know what kind of accuracy to expect and maybe some advice on loads in the 2000-2300fps range for squirrels? Also, he'd like to rebarrel to .17AH and is looking for a smith with experience working these actions. The BR smiths around here won't work on it because of the time involved in making the tooling for the tiny action. Thanks |

Chad, several of us here are "Brno boys", I have owned three 527's and currently have a .223 that has been re-barreled to .17MachIV. You should easily get MOA accuracy with a wide variety of loads. I used 9.0grs of IMR-4227, WW cases, Rem 61/2 primer, and a 45 gr. Hornady psp, on fox squirrels. Velocity with this load was 2,150 fps, and it shot very well out of both a Ruger 77/22VHZ, and the 527, and was not too rough on edible stuff. Millett makes "Angle-Loc" windage adjustable rings for the 527 in three different heights. http://www.millettsights.com/ The smith that did the work on mine is a fellow by the name of Jim Caudill in Sunbury Ohio. Truing the action, squaring the bolt face, lapping the lugs, threading, chambering, profiling, and installing the barrel, and bluing barrel and action, cost me $200. Jim did a super job. If you can't find anyone near you, e-mail me and I'll give you Jim's # sframe@email.msn.com |

How can that guy stay in business? If I can scrounge up a few hundred dollars I may have to give him a call. Thanks. |
