I'm looking into another wildcat and need some more accurate info on the dimensions and then possible availability of brass for one of these two cases. The 5.7 looks promising, and Im just curious how similar the 4.6 is.

I think I've got samples of both of these in my cartridge
collection. I'll try to dig them out and take some measurements for you. If you don't hear from me in the next couple of days, email me a reminder.

Mainly I was interested in the case head and body dimensions. Is the case head around 0.310 on both? Where would one send to get cases for either of these? I understand that loaded rounds are LEO only, but I'm not really interested in reproducing those loadings.
Thanks again.
David

I haven't had a chance to measure either of them yet, but as to
availability, I think SOG had a bunch of the H&K ammo for sale the last time I looked through one of their fliers.

The single 5.7x28 I have measures .304" across the rim, .311" just ahead of the extractor groove, and the case is 1.132" long.
According to COTW, both of those first two numbers should be .310".

I have two samples of the HK 4.6x36 -- one is HK manufacture, the other from a box marked something like "4,56x36 Fabrica de Armas de Toledo" (I'm working from memory.) Thy both measure .352" at the rim and ahead of the extractor groove. Case length is 1.405" - 1.407". That equates pretty well to a rimless 218 Bee case, or a slightly lengthened 30 carbine.

Hope this helps,
Cannon

How much it does. Now to find a source for the 5.7x28 cases. The rim you measured is right at perfect. While the HK would be good for other projects, like you noticed, there are other cases more available for those.

If you haven't already, you might try asking about brass at accuratereloading.com There are a fair number of Europeans hanging out there who might have a better shot at getting their hands on this stuff than anyone in the states.
