Max velocity with .17 cal, 37-gr VLD, what twist?

Ok, I know that Berger recommends using a 6-twist or 7-twist barrel to shoot these bullets around 3000-3200 fps. However, what if you boosted velocities by using a bigger case and a slower twist? Since the stability of a bullet is determined by the RPM rate, by lowering the twist to, say 1-in-9, the RPM's would go down. But, if you boosted velocity enough to balance this out, everything should be fine. I'm basically trying to find a way to fire the relatively fragile VLD's over 3500 fps without them disintegrating due to the stress of a fast twist tearing them apart. Has anyone tried this before? Does anyone have access to a ballistics calculator to see if the RPM's of a 6-twist/3200 fps system are equal a 9-twist/3700 fps system? Thanks a lot.

Nick,
As I have said all along use a .17 rem in its standard form. NO need to do any wildcatting. The standard .17 REm will drive the 37gr bullets at least 3650fps. I know as I was able to reach this velocity with no pressure signs.
Good luck.

used a 17 ppc w/37 vld for about 3 years. my particular barrel has a twist that measures 7.25. if you push over 3650 good chance bullet won't make the trip consistently. part of it is rpm part seems to be the same problem i have with other fast twist barrels and long vld bullets, they are prone to fouling buildup toward muzzle in just a shoots. my particular rifle shoots extremely well, but if i didn't all ready have a rem. action off of 1 of my old br rifles with a ppc bolt face i don't think i would have gone this direction,i too believe .17 rem. would be a better choice.
